The University has improved its world ranking in 2008 by climbing to 40th place in the respected league table./ h( z# R" b/ y1 p6 o3 V
In addition, Manchester has risen to sixth in Europe from ninth place last year. Since the merger between the Victoria University of Manchester and UMIST in 2004, a year-on-year improvement in the Shanghai Jiao Tong Academic Ranking of World Universities has been one of the University's main benchmarks for success, central to the pursuit of the Manchester 2015 Agenda.
